Avani Rai is a photographer based out of Mumbai and has worked as a cameraperson on a number of short films that have been celebrated at international festivals (Clermont Ferrand, TIFF). Her photography ranges from the aftermath of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, Kashmir, the Chennai water crisis, to name a few. Her photographic works have been published in various Indian and International publications (GQ, Vogue, Architectural Digest, The Wire, Sunday Guardian. Scroll, The Hearst, The Platform, etc) and she worked with several agencies like TBWA Singapore, Ogilvy, Taproot, Dentsu, Cheil for their campaigns.s.
She has recently forayed into filmmaking as a Director & DP. Celebrating the man hailed as the Father of Indian Photography, Avani’s film “Raghu Rai – An Unframed Portrait” premiered at the IDFA in November 2017 and has travelled to DocPoint (Finland, Estonia), DocAviv (Tel Aviv), Docs Against Gravity (Poland), Oslo (Norway), TRT documentary days (Turkey) where it was selected as the opening film, Doc Edge (New Zealand), Doc Fest (Germany), MakeDox (Her film won the Moral Approach award, Macedonia), Nordisk Panorama awards (Held in Sweden, her film received an honorary mention) and played at the prestigious 20th United Nations Association film festival held in San Francisco.
She has directed and shot the campaign for the perfume oil brand Ayu and recently directed her first commercial for HDFC Ergo. She continues to work on personal projects alongwith shooting film & stills for branded campaigns.
